The illegal trade in wildlife remains one of the most pressing threats to biodiversity, animal welfare, and public health. At the conference, we will have an interactive workshop which will bring together a diverse group of participants, from NGOs, rescue centers, law enforcement agencies, and government departments, uniting experts and practitioners from across Asia and beyond.
An update from Free the Bears
Earlier this week Free the Bears rescued a female moon bear caged for 10 years. This is their message:
Tragically, she passed away soon after rescue due to underlying health conditions. Although most bears recover from their years of suffering when they arrive into our care, sadly, some bears don’t make it.
This was the 25th bear we’ve rescued in Laos in 2024, & the 150th bear we’ve rescued in Laos in total, a major milestone for Free the Bears. We’re devastated that such a special rescue was never able to fully experience life outside of a cage. We’ll always do everything we can to rescue a bear in need & thank you for your understanding & your support during this difficult time.
Special thanks to our government partners from the Department of Forest Inspection (DOFI) Vientiane for facilitating the rescue.
